13 November 2025 marked a significant milestone for Hong Kong's communications and electronics sector, as the Hong Kong International Communications Electronic Chamber (HKICEC) successfully held its First Inauguration Ceremony and Banquet.
The "Hong Kong International Communications Electronics (ICE) Forum," held that afternoon, brought together leaders from numerous international enterprises, including Asurion, PCS Wireless, Sunstrike, iFP, Ai Hui Shou, and Goods Hunter. Representatives engaged in in-depth exchanges on the development and opportunities within the refurbished mobile device sector. In an era where the global telecommunication device market has entered a stage of competition over existing inventory, refurbished devices not only embody environmental responsibility but have also become a new driver for industrial chain growth. Forum experts unanimously agreed that Hong Kong, leveraging its mature trade systems and flexible market mechanisms, serves as an ideal platform to promote the sustainable development of the industry.
In his address, Mr. Algernon Yau Ying-wah, Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, affirmed Hong Kong's international business environment and expressed his expectation that the Chamber would inject fresh momentum into the industry. Dr. Horace Cheung Kwok-kwan, Deputy Secretary for Justice, also highlighted that Hong Kong will play a leading role in the recycling and reuse of communication equipment and electronic products. Hong Kong's robust logistics systems, legal foundation, and financial services provide solid support for the communications electronics industry. Meanwhile, the Hong Kong Government will actively promote industrial innovation and low-carbon transformation through policy support and international collaboration, supporting Hong Kong’s development into an international innovation and technology hub.
That evening, the HKICEC's Inauguration Ceremony was successfully held amid industry attention, signifying Hong Kong's vital role as a global hub for communications electronics trade. Over the years, Hong Kong has brought together domestic and international mobile communication enterprises, handling substantial equipment flows and transaction volumes. Today, the industry is joining hands to transform this advantage into a force for industry change. Owing to its unique industrial ecosystem and geographical advantages, Hong Kong has become a crucial hub for the entrepot trade of global communication electronic devices.
The ceremony saw participation from over 200 corporate members, including top hundred listed companies from China, overseas listed giants, and global industry leaders, demonstrating the industry's strong identification with the philosophy of "Gathering Strength, Creating the Future."
The successful execution of the ceremony relied on the steadfast support of all members and the hard work of the management team. We hereby extend our sincere gratitude to all participating organizations and individuals. Although the ceremony has concluded, a new journey for the industry is just beginning. We hope the industry will unite and collaborate with a pragmatic and enterprising spirit to jointly create a new, illustrious chapter.
The road ahead is vast, the future promising — let us continue to join hands and lead the industry to scale new heights!
